A week in a nutshell

Got a few more last minute end of summer mods for the car today. Quite happy with the outcome of them.

School apparently starts for teh youngins on Tuesday! This is the first time that I will not have to go to school. It’s kind of surreal and an indicator that it is time to start applying for jobs. The break was nice, but the money situation is not. I need to save up to pay for my ticket to Jamaica for my cousin’s wedding and a few other trips like Japan/HK/various parts of Asia and NYC. I want to travel over the next few years. I definitely want to do Europe with a few friends and just a back pack. I figure the more people I’m with in a hostel the safer I am and my stuff is. Hah!

One of my friends just came back up from NY after completing his medical review and some internship time in a hospital. I feel really awesome when I  say that I have a friend who is a doctor. I mean, how often can you declare that? Especially one that wants to become a neurologist? Holy batman toasts Robin! Happy for the doc, and waiting for the day he gets his M.D title on paper.

Anyhow, as celebration we all went downtown to Dangerous Dan’s for some burgers on Monday. Little did we know that he was closed on Mondays. After an epic fail, we headed down the street to the burgershoppe or something like that. The place was decent. It was no 3.5 stars as the beef was just that. Beef. There was no seasoning to it. Otherwise the ingredients were fresh and the sauces they topped with were delicious. I had some of their fresh onion rings as well. At first I didn’t think it was much, but you could honestly eat a plate and be full. Being adventurous and all, we headed back down to Dan’s on wednesday for another burger helping. For those that have been there, is it me or is the owner/front man kind of a dick? He’s insanely rude to customers and his employees. I would rate his burger shop higher if he was more pleasant. The meat was seasoned, but barely. The burgers felt slapped together and not put together like the burgershoppe. I think if the two were to combine we’d have a real winner. Anyways, as some of you know Dangerous Dan’s is famous for it Quadruple Colon clogger something something combo which is a 24oz patty with two eggs, bacon and other goodies along with a small poutine and a shake. One of my friends is insane when it comes to eating big meals, so he got this along with the upgrade to a fired mars bar (FYI – disgusting. Tasted like flour according to another friend). My buddy managed to finish EVERYTHING in one sitting. What’s disgusting is it finished it all in almost the same amount of time it took us to eat our burgers. The guys next to us thought he was a champion because his “heavier” friends couldn’t even finish the combo. An inspiration to people who aspire to become a food fiend and a great story to tell others? I think so. Needless to say he almost threw up from the amount of food he ate and had to walk it out while the rest of us took a joy ride in his car around town running errands. That Wednesday was hands down one of the best days of my summer. Thanks guys!

I heard the new Jay-Z album the other day and totally don’t understand why people are hating on it. It’s a great album! So what he has a bunch of collaborations? He’s already done a bunch of solo albums, let the man experiment and create new sounds. I’ll probably be picking this album up which says a lot if you know me and my vast music collection.

Speaking of albums, what’s crazy? One of my friends at work is working with a producer for Katy Perry’s new album. How crazy is that!? He spends a week in LA for an internship and gets the hook up to work on a well known artist’s album. (y) Maybe I can get a referral to do her album cover and booklet *whistles*

Busiest Saturday Ever

I’m home alone for the next few days. Woke up extremely early to drop my parents and sister off at the tour bus meeting place. I thought I would be able to fall asleep as soon as I got home but that didn’t exactly work out the way I planned. Instead I stayed up and what I thought should have been lunchtime turned out to be breakfast…I’ve never been so discombobulated before. Played some Batman and got a call from a friend who wanted to have lunch at Kenzo Ramen on Dundas. It’s pretty good, but I would not suggest the chicken ramen. I wanted something different from teh traditional and it turned out to be a poor choice now that I think about it. The soup was thick (like corn soup viscosity) and made it hard to find the ramen and chicken. I didn’t know if I had finished all the “goods” or not because the soup acted like another solid in the bowl. lol. Regardless, it was good. Especially their gyoza. Shopped around town and picked up a stussy key ring with flashlight. Didn’t notice it at first, but my light does not work. I’ll have to exchange it on Monday. My flip key will no longer face the abuse that my interlocked driveway presents it. My previous “keyring” was an open ended bandolier. Got back uptown and spent some time at a friend’s birthday party and left with another back downtown for a farewell/bar hop. An eventful night (as usual) but this time I totally had an epic fail moment. I don’t know if it was because I was extremely tired and partially drunk but I totally forgot to get this girl’s name and contact. I spoke to a friend when I got home early in the morning and she made a valid point that you should always be sharp because you never know who you will meet when you go out. She spoke of Rolly’s Garage’s night market on saturday nights. I may go next week to check it out and hopefully bump into her to get my missing info. Blagh.

A few of my buddies and I went up north (okay not that far north, more like 20 minutes north) from our houses and for the first time, shot a gun…or more like guns. It is such a surreal feeling when you are holding a gun in your hands and about the squeeze the trigger. The feeling that overcomes you is describable. It’s a mix of emotions and your imagination runs wild for a few seconds before you squeeze. When you do squeeze the reaction is something that no movie or video game can prepare you for. We shot a glock today (standard issue pistol for police officers), AR-15 (shotgun) and an M16 (they carry this thing around Afghanistan. It’s heavy as hell! I can’t imagine carrying it through desert heat.). By far, the AR-15 was the BEST gun today. I think it has to do with it having the most recoil. Great times with the homies today!

Picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum today for 38 bucks! I was so happy I actually woke up on time and made my way to work to pick it up. When I actually had work later that day, we were sold out. I’d have been devastated! The few minutes that I did play before shooting guns, I can say were amazing. I liked the demo, but it felt linear in terms of its combat. I learned today that you could combo by pressing different buttons. Batman’s moves never looked so cool!

So I’ve been gathering potential employers as of last night. I have a nice list, but I have no clue where to start! Being my first job, I’m tossing up pros and cons of relocating. I mean I have no money to move to a new place and set up shop. How did some of the graduates from two years ago do it? The last thing I need is more debt…=/

Today my friend Alex and I decided to go hit up a shooting range not to far from our houses. When we got there after a nice 15 minute drive, to our dismay, we were not allowed to shoot today because we did not have an appointment. We still scheduled something for Monday afternoon, but I was uber sad I couldn’t squeeze a few off. I think Monday is going to be as 12G shotgun and a few pistol rounds. Wish me luck with the shotgun…it looks violent as hell.

Having the day’s plans ruined, we decided to hit up the a different type of range – a golf range. It was my first time going, but I think I did pretty well for a nO0b. I had my classic swing and miss moments, but I think the highlight was me hitting the golf collector guy with a pop-up ball. I was so proud of myself. I even managed to sink a downhill chip from 5 feet away from the hole. I’m kind of addicted and may need to buy myself a set of clubs soon. Just for the range that is…I think I would totally fail in a real game.

District 9

Just came back from watching District 9. What a BITCHIN’ movie! Hands down one of the best movies of the summer. The realism of the movie makes it that much more amazing. The Special FX were top-notch and so believable. I really do believe this is what made the movie. Telling the story is one thing, but actually visually representing it correctly is another; like design. If you haven’t watched this movie yet, what are you waiting for? The mech in the trailer should be enough to convince you to watch it.
